Started as an excavation site off the Old Cedar Grove Road back in the 1940’s, this unnamed gravel pit was once a part time hobby. As time progressed on, this gravel pit grew in size with tons of valuable aggregates produced from its rich gravel and sand deposits.
With the construction of a new road in the early 50’s off State Highway 27, access into the gravel pit was made easier and safer for large construction vehicles and equipment to enter. The continuation of producing the highest quality construction materials deemed necessary for the building of major roads and highways all around Kennebec County here in Maine was in high demand. |
